  • Fiscal survey of theaters deadline today
Last chance to participate in the Fiscal pulse survey, deadline is today! The Minnesota Theater Alliance in partnership with Theatre Communications Group (TCG) and the Association of Performing Arts Service Organizations (APASO), is conducting a very short snapshot survey to get an up-to-the-minute sense of how your arts organization is faring. The information gathered in this survey will contribute to a regional and national picture of the fiscal health of the arts, so we urge you to complete it! Even if you don’t think all of the questions are relevant to your organization, we do ask that you participate as long as you are a not-for-profit arts organization. THE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT:

    1. This survey will not require you to crunch any numbers and should only take 5-10 minutes. You must begin and submit it during the same session; you cannot save your answers and submit them later.
    2. If you receive this survey from more than one service organization, PLEASE ONLY FILL IT OUT ONCE, but do select ALL service organizations with which you are affiliated on the preliminary information page.
    3. If your fiscal year 2011 is not yet over, please estimate where you will be.
    4. In order to provide an accurate analysis of the data, THIS SURVEY IS INTENDED ONLY FOR NOT-FOR-PROFIT ARTS ORGANIZATIONS. Those who should NOT fill this survey out include arts service organizations, individual artists or teachers, commercial producers or companies and for-profit theatre camps or studios.
    5. If you have any questions about the survey, please email: Chris Shuff at cshuff@tcg.org.

The link to the survey is:

Detailed data will be kept confidential to the Minnesota Theater Alliance, and aggregated data will be shared back with all of you.

MN State Arts Board needs grant panelists
The Arts Board is looking for volunteers to serve as panelists for their 2012 grant programs. Panelists should be Minnesota residents who are artists, arts administrators, arts educators, or board members with arts organizations. The Arts Board is looking for panelists for all program areas. If you're interested, fill out a panelist nomination form, found on the Arts Board website at http://www.arts.state.mn.us/about/volunteer.htm. If you have questions, please contact Jennifer Tonko, panel and program coordinator, at 651-215-1608 or jennifer.tonko@arts.state.mn.us.

    Sally Ordway Irvine Awards
Established in 1992, the Sally Awards have honored individuals and institutions from across Minnesota who contribute to the region’s artistic and cultural vitality. Nominations for the 2011 awards are being accepted through November 14, 2011. Individuals and organizations from any artistic or cultural field in Minnesota are eligible, as are artists, professional administrators, volunteers, and philanthropists. One person or organization will receive an award in each of these five categories: Arts Access, Vision, Initiative, Commitment, and Education. Visit http://www.ordway.org/sallyawards to read more and download a nomination form.

    ArtPlace grants
ArtPlace America recently announced a $750,000 grant to Springboard for the Arts to work with the city of Saint Paul and Twin Cities Local Initiatives Support Coalition to foster creative placemaking throughout the neighborhoods disrupted by Central Corridor light rail construction.

This is the second major grant for creative placemaking awarded to a Minnesota based project this summer. In July, the Hennepin Theatre Trust was awarded a $200,000 Our Town grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for creative placemaking and hosted NEA chair Rocco Landesman at a panel discussion on creative placemaking on September 9.

ArtPlace also announced an additional invitation for Letters of Inquiry from creative placemaking initiatives involving arts organizations, artists, and designers working in partnership with local and national partners to produce a transformative impact on community vibrancy. Requests are due November 15. A Web seminar on developing a Letter of Inquiry for ArtPlace will be held October 3. Additional details can be found at http://www.artplaceamerica.org/loi.

ArtPlace is a collaboration of top national foundations, the NEA, and various federal agencies to accelerate creative placemaking across the U.S.

Register your rental space in SpacemART
The Minnesota Theater Alliance and Springboard for the Arts are proud to announce SpacemARTmn.org, a new, FREE, online directory of spaces across Minnesota for making and presenting art. Thanks to the brilliant and generous people at Fractured Atlas, we have a wonderful database system our whole community can share, but it will be only as useful as the data in it. So please, if you have a space available for others to use - rehearsal space, performance space, studio space, etc., please visit SpacemARTmn.org now and enter your space now!

Free rehearsal space exchange for cleaning
Fallout Art Coop in Minneapolis is looking for someone interested in a work exchange. We can offer 5 hours a week rehearsal/development time in exchange for 1 hour a week cleaning to start with. If more time is desired, we are willing to work with the right person to create a win win relationship. Studio is 1400 square feet, wood floors, tons of natural light, stereo system, close to bus line, close to MCAD and Children's Theater. Please email Stephanie at mssjohnson@yahoo.com if you are interested.

Free Night of Theater increases participation 40%
Quick update on Free Night of Theater: this year, we had 3,351 patrons (a 40% increase over last year) sign up to win tickets in the Free Night lottery. And 40 theaters across Minnesota have allocated 2,412 pairs of tickets to 68 different shows throughout October so that new patrons could visit their theater for the first time. Now that's some awesome audience development!
